‘Since their beginning in 1956, as well as being one of the most important Cuban bands, Orquesta Reve has qualified as Cuba’s most important musical school; a place where many of the country’s top musicians from bands such as Los Van Van, Los Dan Den and Los 440 began their artistic careers. For almost half a century, Orquesta Revé - later known as El Charangón - has been among Cuba’s best-loved and most influential bands. When founder and musical director Elio Revé tragically died in a road accident in 1997, his son and keyboard player Elio Revé Jr was fortunately on hand to keep the tradition alive. Changüi Homenaje is his second album as a band leader and finds Elio Jr boldly forging his own direction with a classic but contemporary take on the irresistible, Afro-Cuban rhythms known as changüi.’ -
