EGREM
TITLES
In 1995, Tumi Music and
Cuba's only major record company, EGREM, entered amomentous
new partnership in which Tumi was given worldwide distribution rights
to the EGREM catalogue.
This exciting development in Anglo-Cuban trade relationswas
launched at the Cuban Embassy in London on 5 December 1995.
EGREM's catalogue runs
into thousands, and their role in the development of Cuban (and
therefore international) music has been incalculable. Under Cuban socialism
the State
enables not only doctors, teachers, and lawyers to develop their talents,
but also recognises
professional groups such as musicians. They, too, are provided with livelihoods.
Over 500 professional groups are registered with the Ministry of Culture and
EGREM's role in developing their talent has been strategic.
